Five ways to add curb appeal to your home in the Fall

Fall has arrived! And as homeowners, maybe you’re considering selling (get started with Bōde) – or maybe you just want your home to look good going into the long Winter months. Either way, curb appeal is so important to consider during the Fall. We’re sharing five ways to make sure your home looks stunning all the way through Winter.

1. Highlight your entry

Fall presents a great time to get creative with your outdoor decor. Making your entry way cozy and welcoming is a great way to enhance the overall curb appeal of your home. Dress up furniture with seasonal pillows, add tasteful fall themed items to steps or porches, put up a seasonal wreath, or doormat. However you choose to style your home exterior, incorporating fall decor will help to make it look better to impress your neighbours – or potential buyers!

2. Light it up

A challenge homeowners face when trying to make their home exterior look good in Fall and going into Winter is the loss of natural daylight. The good news is – your home can look gorgeous in the evening too! We suggest replacing outdated light fixtures, and adding more light where possible. Installing pathway lights is an option as well. The addition of exterior lights also adds more aesthetic to your home during the day and there are so many styles to choose from.

3. Spruce up your landscaping

Did you know that Fall is actually an excellent time for landscaping and preparing your home for the next spring? Without the extreme heat of summer, Fall provides a great environment for grass to grow and flourish. Get started on your lawn care and tend to your flowerbeds and gardens to get everything prepped for the Winter months. Spruced up landscaping will keep your curb appeal looking great in the Fall, but you’ll also be thankful in the Spring when all the snow has melted and you have less maintenance to get your landscape prepped for Summer. Those thinking of listing in the Spring should certainly consider landscaping prep this Fall season.

4. Paint your front door

Changing the colour of your front door is an easy and inexpensive way to add more curb appeal to your home. More importantly, front door colours can actually have an impact on the value of your home. According to studies, homes with black or charcoal front doors sold for 6K more on average! If you’re thinking about changing the colour of your front door, make sure to do it before the weather turns too cold or wet. Exterior paint does best in mild temperatures so painting your door early in Fall could be a great way to enhance your curb appeal for the rest of the year!

5. Keep it clean

During the Summer months your home likely built up some dirt on the siding, exterior beams, and windows. Cleaning the exterior of your home can greatly improve the curb appeal and have it looking fresh going into the Winter months. Buyers, guests, or passersby should be looking at how beautiful your home is, so wipe things down to make sure that nothing takes away from the appearance of your property. A little cleaning is an easy way to add curb appeal!
